We are working on city pilots in the UK, USA, South East Asia and more. Let us know what you think of our product, and of course AMAA.

Cool idea. What happens if I lose my phone?
Also does the lock go into the frame or the wheels?
Thanks for your question.
If you lose your phone, there is a keypad at the end of the installation.
Simply key in your space ID and your PIN (that was set in your app preferences) and the bike becomes unlockabale.
The main lock goes through the frame and rear wheel, and the built in retractable cable lock can secure anything else such as front wheel/seat etc.

Seems like a cool idea.
Final Question:
Thanks for your questions :)
We have a few different pricing models, but we are actually able to supply it for free, so that the infrastructure costs the cities nothing. We do this in partnership with media companies - with the operating costs being funded by on-street posters.
The hardest thing has definitely been getting around NFC as a technology. We really wanted to have a 'contactless' interaction between the smartphone and the locking tower. It took us 2 years, but we have managed to directly mimic NFC using bluetooth frequencies, using no private APIs. So we are the first company to offer in-app contactless technology :)
It can be powered by mains or solar, and there is a 36h uninterruptible power supply in each installation, running from a battery until power is restored.
The product is free for people to use. But there are fines for people who abandon their bikes.
Our first partner cities are in planning at the moment, and first projects will go live in January 2018.
I had my MK1 Raleigh Chopper stolen about a month before we started this project. It sucked so much that I went on to design this product!
All 3 of us use road bikes to get around, but I think a tandem is great fun to ride - especially in Amsterdam!
How does the alarm thing work exactly? Does it go off the moment the bike is moved?
The alarm sensors are very sensitive. They can literally detach somebody just touching tour bike.
In the app presences you can choose the thresholds at which you want to receive a notification.
All the sensors are calibrated so that the preference is super easy to choose.
do you have to manually trigger the alarm? What if you're in a business meeting or otherwise unable to access your phone?

One of the preferences is to sound the alarm automatically for a 3/5 grade attacl or higher. Grade 1 or 2 'light disturbances' need the alarm to be triggered manually
How many bikes have you had stolen from you to have the idea to create something like this?
haha great question. All 3 co-founders have been a victim of bike theft a couple of times.
Sounds like an opportunity for pranksters. Touching people's bikes just to see them come running.
Yeah, we thought about that and figured that pranksters don't really do that with cars so maybe we were just being overly critical.
Either way, all installations have IP-CCTV that sends a free still image of the installation to your phone from the moment the alarm was triggered.
You can download 20 seconds of footage (10 seconds either side) for free once a month or for a small in-app fee thereafter.
How is it working with local governments to get these things installed?
Honestly, it's very difficult. Doing business with the public sector is very different from a typical startup sales process.
Thankfully our product is awesome and gets great reception, and so are making great progress now all over the world.
so.. um... where are some of these located? I'd like to use one.
Thanks :)
This product just launched, and so our current sites are private access only.
Expect to see public sites cropping up in USA, Canada, UK, South East Asia, Europe and more as of January 2018 👍
I could imagine it being very buerocratic.
It's different from region to region, but hey you just have to accept the status quo to implement things at scale and get benefit to a lot of citizens quickly.
Regardless, the experience dealing with the public sector will really come in handy down the line. Good luck with your business!
