Wizzard were an English glam rock band formed by Roy Wood, former member of The Move and co-founder of the Electric Light Orchestra. The Guinness Book of 500 Number One Hits states, "Wizzard was Roy Wood just as much as Wings were Paul McCartney." They are most famous for their 1973 Christmas song "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday".

Minhaj and Klepper are secretly dating, aren't they?
They make such a cute couple.
Ha ha ha they are both happily married not to each other
Hi! I'm a big fan of your work on TDS, you've become a great addition to the greatest fucking newsteam!
Question: Did you have any pre-concieved notion of what a correspondent on TDS did? Where you surprised of anything?
When I was hired I was thrilled to know that correspondents get creative input on their pieces. that wasn't the case on scripted shows that id worked on before. Also I have a degree in broadcast journalism so I was thrilled to see how much of my actual journalistic training apply to what I do here it's the perfect blend of comedy and journalism
Can you elaborate a little bit more about the fight your barber got into with his girl before he cut your hair?
All I know is that was the worst haircut of my life. Never get a haircut from a man in the middle of a custody battle with his baby mama
Will you vote for Kanye in 2020?
I was Until i saw those god awful Yeezy Season 5 sneakers. they look like shoes your granddaddy cuts the grass in.
What inspired you to get into comedy when you were younger?
In college I took a public speaking class and got laughs anytime I spoke in front of the class that was the genesis of stage time for me.
Hey Roy! Huge fan!
There's a clear problem with the notion of the "echo chamber" in today's political discourse and shows like The Daily Show and Colbert are seen as simply being liberal echo chambers created to confirm their audience's already held beliefs. Do you and the rest of the Daily Show team see this as a real problem? If not then why? If so then how do you go about trying to reach out of your normal audience on considerably divisive issues? Do you have any ideas how everyone else can fight they're own personal echo chambers?
Also what's your least favorite color?
I think Trevor's interview with tom lahren and bill maher's upcoming interview w/ Milo are proof that shows are trying to change their approach of preaching to the choir. We cannot continue to have a conversation amongst ourselves about other people at some point you have to talk to other people and you also have to be critical of yourself which I think is slowly starting to happen across the board with all of the liberal satire shows. I think this was also evident in Seth Meyers having on Kellyanne Conway
How has the election of Trump influenced the way the show is made? Has there been discussions on the best way to cover stories related to Trump?
yeah. the bigger discussions now are how to dig deeper than the surface jokes. Looking deeper into his cabinet picks, etc. and even looking at how the Democrats are responding matters too
You're great on The Daily Show. Of course, rather than ask you a relevant political question, I'd like to know what Playstation games you enjoy. You should try Dark Souls...
I'm mostly a sports guy when it comes to PlayStation games I even own a NASCAR game. As for RPGs, I have a grand theft auto, call of duty, and watchdogs. My PlayStation network name is 'JimJMchater'
Hey Roy! Thanks for doing this AMA.
I'm a mod over at r/DailyShow and one concern that I've seen pop up regularly in the last few months is the lack of field pieces. I feel like field pieces have decreased dramatically since the election, and was wondering why. Is it because the Trump news is a priority or has there been some changes made over at the show?
First of all thank you for what you do over there I know there're a lot of differing opinions about the direction of the show with in that subreddit but the dialogue is very much appreciated. More people than you think from ALL the satire shows read their reddit pages. LOL The bigger issue since the election has been figuring out as a show what is important is it trump? is it his advisers? is it Russia? is it everything that is still happening at home separate and apart from trump? I cannot speak for the writers and executive producers but it is my guess that right now we are still trying to make sense of this new landscape. as a whole the show does more field pieces than when Jon Stewart hosted. but I think going forward as a show we know that our aim on issues in this country has to be much more precise because the climate trump has created, there is so much more political noise. Every day there's 5 new "outrageous" things. And then the next day 5 things debunking those things, and then the following week 20 new things. It's FOR SURE tougher to hone in on what the stories are sometimes. and I also think if you look at some of the field pieces that we did during the first year of the show, theres some I don't think would would get green lit now.(My Army Corp of Engineers story is one). At minimum it would've gone straight to the web and not been on air. that 30 minutes of real estate is now more valuable than ever. because The tone of the nation is different. the viewer's pallete is different. so we're taking a little more time to hone in on exactly what it is that matters now in Trump's America.
sorry for the long answer but I hope that helps.
when trump got elected there were stories we were planning to do that IMMEDIATELY got pulled off the board. because we believed them to no longer matter to people.
Field had to figure out what the new stories are, plan them and then go shoot them.
Also a good field piece form conception to air takes about 2-3 weeks to complete. and after the election we had a week off for thanksgiving and three weeks for the holidays. so that's a month of production time lost. so theres that factored in too. LOL
No more prank calls?
They'll be back soon
Would you let your gf go to a male strip club?
Yes if she is with other women. Women in groups at a strip club is not a big thing if your girl is going to the strip club alone somebody is beating her back out guaranteed.
"beating her back out" is a southern term for wild sex
What's your relationship with Trevor and the rest of the correspondents? Do you hang out with them?
Trevor is busier the most of the other correspondents so we don't get to catch up often outside of work I probably hang the most with a ronny Cheing and Hassan because they are comedians and we often cross paths on the comedy club scene
Are you and Jordan Klepper going to team up again? For a show perhaps? Called: KLEPPERWOOD?
No???
Anyone?
:~P
i want us to do a buddy cop show. "Soul Man and Powder'
Would you sleep with Ivanka or Melania Trump?
Neither Trump might get jealous. #DonaldTrumpWantsToBangHisDaughter
For the Daily Show, what news outlets do you love to read/watch and which ones are painful and why?
I'm one of the guys up there who doesn't get into a lot of the news away from work. I tried to watch the offbeat stuff I watching National Geographic and I enjoy the today show and good morning America. If you ask me this question yesterday I would have said FOXNews but after what Shepard Smith said about Trump I may have to reconsider my opinion of that station LOL
Do you think the rest of the country is under going an Alabamafication? If so, do you think they'll appreciate the ribs?
I'm sure those arrogant pricks in North Carolina, Texas and Missouri Will reject Alabama style ribs and that good ol Alabama white sauce LOL
Do you think kids are a blessing?
Only the good ones the bad ones are a pain in the ass
Did you wish on a monkey's paw for the Cubs to win and thus directly cause Donald Trump to become president?
Had I known before the World Series that the Cubs winning would've meant that truck would become president not only what I have still gone to the game I would've walked over the $20,000 they wanted for box seats if that was going to be my last day of happiness it might as well be box seats
What are the best donuts?
Krispy Kreme has the best doughnut. Dunkin Donuts has the best coffee. Any place that calls a doughnut a yeast ring should be shut down. Yeast ring is just a stupid name for a doughnut that hippies made up
What is your favorite sport?
Baseball by a landslide
Are you bigger then Trevor ?
If by bigger you mean fatter then yes.
If by bigger you mean more popular then hell no. LOL
Can't wait for Sunday! As a Birmingham resident - how do you feel about the direction of the city and what are your favorite spots in town?
Milos, the Birmingham barons, Jim and Nick's barbecue
Hi Roy! Do you miss Ms Gaynell and the WOTD?
I love Ms. Gaynell and I love 95.7 in Birmingham gay nail and I still talk to this day and I got fired from Jamz back in in 2012 LOL. I heard rumors that they stopped doing Word of the day is that true?
What do you want to do after the Daily Show? Movies, TV series, comedy?
I enjoyed the unscripted world so I'll hang out here forced long as I can maybe sports and comedy or a random movie or two. a sitcom would be nice but it's not at the top of the list for me right now
Roy, do you secretly just tolerate Tom Griswold?
LOL everyone loves Tom. True story I wear cubs alternate hats in studio just to annoy him because I know he hates it when you wear a team hat that is not regulation colors
It did help, thank you!
thanks for understanding. go back and watch field pieces from last year and I'm sure you'll find a few that if we aired them now would feel a little out of place.
How much sex are you having?
Not enough
If you had to compare trump to a donut what kind of donut would he be and taste like?
A glazed doughnut hold the civil rights
Are you a gamer ?
Yes PlayStation four. FIFA., MLB the show, madden, call of duty and grand theft auto
How can we get Steve Czaban back on the national airwaves?
I don't know but it needs to happen soon that man is a national treasure
If you did a project or show with Hannibal Buress what would the name of it be?
Two black dudes and some weed
As an actor: what is the best thing a director can do for you? :~) Thanks! Love your work!
As an actor I've always appreciated it when a director gives me an opportunity to interpret this seen my own way even if it is a bad take it is still appreciate because sometimes in experimentation is where the magic is discovered.
Hi Roy!! Huge fan of a lot of your work. Love that you're doing a Comedy Central special, excited to see it!
My question is about your past radio career. Do you ever plan on rehashing your DJing skills? Your prank calls were hilarious. Would love to hear more.
I definitely want to do more prank phone calls but I haven't had an opportunity because the daily show schedule is so demanding Plus I'm running out of things for people to curse me out over LOL
Hi Roy,
I try to watch whenever I can, and watching you, Ronny, Hassan, Michelle, Desi, and Jordan is always a highlight.
I have a two parter for you! First of all, I think it's been amazing to watch Trevor grow into the role of host of the Daily Show, especially following someone (John Stewart) that the comedy culture has elevated to Clooney status. John has that mythic status great comics achieve where our memories of them consist 100% of their funniest jokes, and never their ones that fell flat or made us groan. Trevor has had a real uphill battle and I think you are all killing it. Can you give any insight into what it's been like to grow into the show together (especially given the tough early loss of Jessica Williams)?
Next: Often, you guys get really, for lack of a better word, mean in your coverage of conservatives. I feel like it goes beyond making solid arguments and often dips into bullying. I think that comedy, by helping us find what is absurd about the way that we think, act, and feel, has a unique power to unite people with opposing opinions, and I think that the bullying detracts from that. I'm really interested to hear your thoughts -- I can understand that in a way, the anger that comes through is a needed part of discourse, and that voice is being overwhelmed by other viewpoints right now. I also can understand that objectively, we should not hold comedy to any higher purpose than simply comedy, so bitching about the level of discourse isn't always relevant. I'd love to hear your ramble for a second on that.
Anyways, thanks for always being a pleasure to watch. I really do wish you a long and fulfilling career -- I'm going to watch your standup soon and I hope to see more of you soon.
Trevor and I are the same but we are different. Because I am American I have more of an insider's opinion on a lot of stuff and because he is from South Africa he has a more curious and quizzical perspective which is good because it keeps us from hitting the same note culturally because we are both African-American.
To the point about conservatives I think it is important to have satire that is balanced and dissecting what is happening on both sides of the aisle In Washington I think doing that and being better about that as a show Will take down some of the perspective that we only bully conservatives. I also think it is important to delineate a difference between bullying and pointing out flat out bullshit and the same goes for Sam B, John Oliver, Bill mahr. I think we are all just trying to point out the hypocrisies in Washington be a Democrat or Republican thank you so much for for watching the show.
How do you think your career would be different now if you had joined the Bob and Tom show instead?
Of course it would be different but I think at the end of the day the daily show was a golden opportunity and I'm very happy to be here and very happy to been a part of the Bob and Tom family for so long. From what I was told I was a mere a few days away from being offered a position at Bob and Tom before being hired at the daily show how do I signed with Bob and Tom I would not of been able to be a part of the daily show and it's quite plausible that I may not have had an opportunity to do my hour special
Do you miss Jon Stewart?
I've never worked under Jon Stewart so it is impossible for me to miss him in that sense. I met him once when he came up to the Daily Show to promote the Zadroga Act w/ the firefighters.
Also, jon is a Mets fan. There's only so much a Cubs fan is allowed to miss a Mets fan
You know what I mean Roy 🍆😉
Trevor and I have yet to compare dicks I think that comes in our third season on the air together
Roy can you explain how your father was an early investor in Soul Train?
It's too long of a story for this AMA. i tell it in detail on a few podcasts. my first appearance on 'What Say You' w/ Q & Sal details it pretty well. but the long and short of it is that My Father was one of the people who loaned Don Corneilus the money he needed to shoot the pilot for 'Soul Train'. when it came time to pay my father back, Don offered him an opportunity to be an Executive producer instead. to which my father replied "This shit is stupid, Nobody wants to watch niggas dance for an hour. Gimme my cash!" my father was never the same after that. LOL
Will Barbara ever get her check?
LOL HA HA!! daily. barbara passed away a few years ago. they were in negotiations to give her a reality show.
Do doughnuts make you fart viciously?
no. but chalupas do .
Roy, been following you for years now. one of my fave bits of yours is when you talk about writing a letter in the civil war and how morale is low ( that part always made me laugh)
How you know when to stop using that joke and move on to the next one?
For me that joke is one of my classic favs. I stopped using it because as I started developing an app that was more about issues in the world the joke did not fit it felt like trying to shoehorn a jazz record onto a rock album
Mr. Jr, may I call you Mr. Jr?
How do you keep refreshed without your material considering the bombardment of the new administration? Like how do you stop the topic from fatiguing you when you have to come up with new material?
Also how's the family?
. The family is good. With my standup I try not to talk about people specifically people change people constantly change offices change their roles change. but the issues remain the same so I tried to focus on issues. At work I tried to focus more on people and the decisions they make that affect the issues positively or negatively. The secret to breaking that cycle of news fatigue is to make sure Cover other stuff from time to time as well because the same way that the viewer can get exhausted so can the reporter. JordanKleppers story on Thursday about Dick Street is a good example of this.
How do you feel about Frederick Douglass walking about recently?
happy to see that Frederick Douglass bounced back from that death thing what a trooper.
Why do idiots marry without a prenup?
Because good six will make you do a lot of dumb stuff
Trevor got a lot of criticism for his work during his first months hosting the DS. How was the climate among the writers and the correspondents during that period?
Everyone was fine and upbeat if anything it made us more steadfast in what we wanted to do creatively on the show any time you do something new people tend to reject when Brett Favre left everyone hated Aaron Rodgers. Trevor had a very specific vision for the show that he was not going to let be altered by the opinions of bloggers and TV reviewers and I think because of that choice the show has a much more unique perspective,
I'll see you in the Facebook group, Roy. ;)
ha ha long live Jim J McHater
I dunno man that sounds like a rip-off of "2 Dope Queens."
ok. how about "2 Dope Kings... And Some Weed" ?
Hi Roy,
When did it actually hit you that Tramp (not a typo) would become president and how did you react? Do you ever find yourself unable to separate your job from your actual political leanings? How do you deal with it? Lastly, when is your black ass coming to Austin (TX)? We'd love to have you out here!
Thanks and good luck!
Ha ha I love Austin and that weird ass barbecue it's very good. I think somewhere around 11:20 on election night is when it hit me that truck had enough electoral votes to pull it out. For me at the end of the day political leanings should be separate and apart from holding people accountable holding officials accountable. If you can do that then you have done your job. And that's what is most important to me.
How bad is Gary Cannon's comedy?
Can't wait to watch the Special this Sunday.
Gary Cannon is a horrible human being. Cancer's biggest fear is being diagnosed w/ Gary Cannon. LOL
Hey man,- Heard you on The Bonfire and Jim/Sam; really enjoyed both interviews; I admittedly stopped watching the Daily Show as regularly when Jon stepped down, but shit man, you're probably my favorite correspondent at this point (Klepper's close). Hearing you shoot the shit with Jay/Dan and Jim/Sam was dope; I'm a WA guy but- what was it like growing up in the South and getting into comedy? super vague ass/cliche ass question, mostly wanted to let you know you're the shit, man :D
The south is tougher. because it's more desolate. the population is more spread out. so every night you have to drive 3-4 hours to get to the next club. Also it is more lonely because you do not have nearly as many people to grow with creatively I think part of why comedians on the coasts grow faster is because they are around other talented people on a regular basis. This breeds a culture of excellence when you're constantly surrounded by people challenging you to be better then you will be better. But if you are in the south opening for a guy who has four DUIs and the only reason he is doing a show tonight is to try and have sex with the waitress you aren't challenged as much.
Cannon and I are heading to Wrigley in April, can't wait! You should join us.
gonna try and get to scottsdale for spring training for a sunday.
Dude you've answered like everyone question in here. fucking PROPS
Was your family proud of you when you made it onto the daily show? we're they like "roy that comedy isn't going to do anything for you" until they saw you on TV?
Ironically for some black people White TV shows are not the pinnacle. I had a guy in a barber shop tell me last year if I want to make it I need to "get on BETs Comic View" LOL that show has been off the air for almost 10 years. Even when she did not agree with me doing comedy when I first started at 19 years old my mom still cosigned on a car for me so that I will stop sleeping and bus stations between gigs she is my biggest fan.
Side bar there're people who do AMAs and NOT answer all the questions? what a bunch of douches. Even if you don't agree with someone, you owe them the decency of a respectful response.
What are your thoughts on the recent Pewdiepie situation where the Wall Street Journal wrote an article about his "anti-semitic posts"?
i'm caught up on PDP losing sponsors and all that stuff. will go read the WSJ article and report back.
Yesterday, on the day there were four active cabinet scandals and an epic meltdown by the President, the Daily Show decided to skimp on writing much about that and instead donated the airtime to let you promote your personal projects.
So the question is: how conflicted are you about their generosity for doing this for you, while also sad to see The Daily Show as an institution has pretty much fallen apart?
The daily show is a 22-minute program. My time on air on Thursday was 74 seconds. Coming out of a bit by Trevor that was dedicated ENTIRELY to the president's meltdown in front of reporters.
Do I feel conflicted about 74 seconds of airtime? No. I do not.
of course i am appreciative of it.
the good thing about scandals is that they aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
also did we discuss any of these said scandals Mon-wed? I'm better money we did. plus being FIRST to a story doesn't meant you're the funniest or the best.
to think because we haven't touched on the scandals AT ALL on the day you think we should havemeans we're falling apart as a show? I respectfully disagree.
