Alright I'll start...
What's it like snowboarding with bionic bodyparts?
It's an interesting challenge, but it motivates me to figure out the possibilities. And my feet never get cold!
What is the very best dessert?
Donuts!! But not just any donut - I like gourmet donuts, like maple bacon, brown sugar, salted caramel...
Do you have any pets?
No, however, we live in the mountains and we have a fox that comes around every day and sits on our porch. We had a squirrel that found its way into the house and lived in here for about two months while we were out of the country. And we have a woodpecker that lives in the wall!
Hi! Can you tell travelers, what are your favorite mountains and the best resorts you love? Thank you!
Luckily my home resort is one of my favorites which is Copper Mountain, Colorado. Big White Canada is another, they always have great snow and it's easy to get to. Sierra at Tahoe is another great one.
Hey Amy! You are amazing! Do you have a favorite quote or words that you live by?
Thank you! "If you can see it, then you can believe it, and you can achieve it"
I also like the idea of "If not now, when? If not you, who?"
What is your training like for the Paralympic Games?
It's intense - it's full time training from this point forward. We've trained and snowboarded for about 28 days in November, so it's basically a full time job until we get through the games.
What is your favorite thing about snowboarding?
Honestly, it's fun! You never get bored.
Hi Amy, since the majority of you snowboarding legs are custom made do you end up using 3D printing at all in the process?
No, but that is something that I want to play with in the future. I'm pretty obsessed with 3D printing, and I have some projects I'll be working on with that!
Hi Amy. Where's the best place to find videos of your work?
That's a challenge because a lot of our competitions are not filmed for TV. We just recently got some videos of our world cup in Finland that we'll hopefully be posting, but you can find a lot of DWTS and other stuff on YouTube, but parasnowboarding hasn't had the coverage that able bodied sports have. But it's getting better!
What is your favorite place in the world to visit?
I've been lucky to travel a lot, but I just got back from Finland, and I can say that was one of most favorite places to travel to. I met reindeer, saw the northern lights, and snowboarded in the dark every day!
Hi Amy, do the DWTS contestants hang out with each other? Did you enjoy your experience on the show? Thanks!
Some of the contestants hang out - everyone has different schedules, and a lot of the people on my season traveled, so we didn't see each other a lot outside of the show. But it was one of the most amazing experiences ever, and I've created great relationships with some of the cast members. One of the coolest experiences of my life.
omg hi Amy, so I have epilepsy tourette's syndrome and I just wanted to say how inspirational u r! How do you stay positive through everything?
I make sure to focus on my passions, the things that I love in life. I surround myself with like-minded, positive thinkers and doers, and instead of focusing on the things I don't have, I focus on what I have.
Who's a tougher coach...your snowboarding coaches, or Derek Hough? :)
Best of luck to you in the Olympics-hope you bring home more hardware!
Derek Hough! For sure.
What is your favorite celebration food?
Donuts are my favorite - I don't eat them all the time, so they're a special treat!
Who is the most interesting person you have met ?
I've had the opportunity to meet a lot of my idols. I'd definitely say Derek Hough because he's such a creative mind. And Oprah, of course!
if you could compete in the summer Games, what would your sport be?
Hmmm.. ping pong? Or who knows, maybe surfing in the future!
What was it like dancing at the Rio Carnival?
Unbelievable experience - my outfit was custom made by one of the top Carnival designers. It was all hand beaded. I'm not sure how many people were watching, but it was just another amazing experience of my life. I fell in love with Brazil at the opening ceremonies to the Olympic Games, and I spent a lot of time in Rio, so I loved meeting all the amazing people there.
You're an incredible person and one of my biggest inspirations. Can't wait to see you at the Paralympics. My questions are; if you weren't a famous paralympian what would you be doing and besides snowboarding what are you favorite Olympic sports to watch summer or winter?
I'd have my own cooking show! I love cooking. My favorite Olympic sports to watch are BMX biking, skateboarding (which is new for Tokyo), and Paralympic rugby - that's one of the most exciting sports I've ever watched.
Do you think the snow level this season will be below normal?
You never know!! We had a great amount of snow in October then it disappeared! Many times if it starts dry like it is now then it hits us hard in January and February!!! We will have to wait and see!
What is your favorite Korean food?
I love Korean bbq!!! However, Korean food has a lot of shrimp seasoning and oyster sauce in it which I’m highly allergic to! So while over there I actually have to pack a big bag with protein powders and food just in case I cannot eat what they are serving us!!!
