» All Actor InterviewsDear Friends,
I don’t always appear on Reddit, but when I do it’s because I have something important to announce.
After nearly a decade portraying The Most Interesting Man in the World (wasn’t it a wonderful run?), I’m thrilled to announce I’m finally putting my Russian and French to use (a little Yiddish too) and keeping my own interesting life of adventures going. What’s more interesting than the truth?
Today, I’m pleased to report that I’m entering the next chapter of my career and joining the editorial staff of True.Ink, a new online magazine. We combine great stories with live, off-line experiences, and we’re taking to the digital world (so foreign to me) and encouraging readers to join us in the field and “live the story.”
My title is editor emeritus (not to shabby eh?), and I’ll be penning a column called True Mastery, which will cover an eclectic range of subjects, including how-to’s like fending off your sailboat from pirates or the right way to use shrimp in a Bloody Mary. I’ll also be writing some poetry, even published my first piece today. Treasure The Dawn, it’s called, about the important of getting up early and savoring the first light. Please check it out at the link below.
My new foray as a journalist reminds me of the grand parades I watched as a kid. Life is very much like a parade. There are those that march in it and those who are content to watch it go by. I prefer to march, and hope you’ll march with me on my new adventure.
Start the march by joining me in Vermont. At True.ink we are having a contest to hang out with me in my home state. Sign up to win at the link below.
For proof this is me, to enter the contest and to sign up for updates from me, go here.
Is writing a relatively new venture for you, or do you have previous journalism experience?
And seriously, now that no one's listening... what do you really think of Dos Equis?
I've been writing poetry since kindergarten.
Also happens to the same time I discovered my affinity for the femme form.
How did you get into writing?
She sat next to me. Her hair was flaxen, face freckled and laughing eyes. We were madly in love. She was an Italian model, in town from Milan. Or was it the Bronx? I don't remember. I was eight.
So what's your favourite beer?
What do you think?
Which of the brags on the XX beer commercial were the most accurate to your real life?
And did you use the guy that does the voice overs during the commercial to interview for your current job? If so, how much does he charge for use in my own job inteviews?
Naturally, my affinity with animals—and their affinity with me. I've fed a tiger cub his milk and then returned years later to feed him in his cage. Hawks, snakes, rhinoceros, pumas... All friends to me.
What is one area you feel that everyone man should have "True Mastery" of?
Chivalry.
Have you ever met anyone who could challenge the "Most Interesting Man Alive" claim?
And, who would you say is the Most Interesting Woman Alive?
The Most Interesting Woman alive is easy.
My wife.
Who would challenge the Most Interesting Man alive?
They're all dead.
Did you just call your wife easy?
Easy? Pardon? Hardly.
I think you're pretty awesome.
How does one become as cool as you are?
Read.
Read everything.
Race to the library.
Now!
What was the inspiration for the notorious sock improv?
As Mark Twain said, "Never go anywhere unnoticed."
Case proven. Thanks for remembering!
I find that one interesting thing a man (or woman) can do is cook. Do you like to cook? And if so, what is one of your favorite things to cook? And if you happen to have a recipe, that would be very interesting.
I love to cook and cook often. I'm cooking right now actually....
The kitchen is always closer to the bedroom with the right menu.
Sign up for my Bloody Mary recipe at True.Ink/Goldsmith
Will throw in the rib recipe too!
How often do you get noticed in public?
From the time the sun goes up to the time I can see the moon.
What are your favorite songs at the moment?
Always the classics—they season with time—like me.
iPhone or Android?
Smoke signals.
Hi Jonathan, I love you works. Have you ever made a voicemail for someone before? Would you make a voicemail for me using your amazing voice? I'd love to have someone call and have your voice tell them to leave a message.
Maybe.
Under the right circumstances, leave no bizarre opportunity behind.

As a True Master of Chivalry, how skilled are you in the art of riding a cheval?
Cheval? You mean the distant cousin of Equus caballus? What do you think? I used to breed them.
Can I take over as the most interesting man in the world?
Let's have a look. Send C.V. to True.Ink/Goldsmith
What's your primary qualification?
I love you.
Thank you. A treasured gift.
I love you too.
What would you recommend reading, and why?
As Goethe said, 'Anyone who doesn't understand the last 3,000 years of history is living foot to mouth." No knowledge of past = no knowledge of today. See Will Durant, Story of Civilization (along with a classic comics, got me through college.)
If you had to choose, would you say the role of "most interesting man in the world" is more of a reflection of your personality? Or is it more of an inspiration into this new career and who you are today?
I put a lot of myself into the character, felt an affinity for him :)
My new role as editor emeritus continues the same spirit, savoring the world around me, celebrating what makes a good life tick
Has KFC asked you to be the world's most interesting Colonel? If they did, would you say yes?
Too many calories (tasty though.)
Hello MIMITW,
With all of your knowledge from reading, what do you think about the ancient astronaut theory? (that our species was helped in some way by extraterrestrials in the past)
I've met some of those people once, actually. We had a round table on Mars. I cooked. Made them my famous lamb chops in Roquefort sauce.
Can I come fishing with you?? I once bear hugged an alligator underwater and picked up a cobra. Love your character such an inspiration for adventure!!
Sure you can. That's part of my role as True.Ink editor. Sharing adventures with brave folks like yourself. I'm raffling away a fishing weekend with me in Vermont. My gear. Special martini. Enter at True.Ink/Goldsmith but the leave the alligator and cobra at home
Your status as the Most Interesting Man could clearly have a lot of influence. Assuming you could convey a message to the world and use your influence, what would you want to encourage everyone in the world to do?
Love.
To love.
Give love.
Preach love.
This trip is short.
Where is your most favorite place you have traveled? What did you like about it?
Many are special. Even a white room with the right friends. But a secret key in the Bahamas comes to mind (can't share the lat/long) but we were boarded by armed military personal (twin fifties, bright lights) a few beers later, we had the laughs of our lives, not to mention pics of second wife in cuffs! Goes to show: you can inspire anyone with the right attitude (and fear of prison.)
If you could give advice to all the young folk that read this, what would it be?
Follow your dreams, but don't forget to wake up and activate. We'll be getting into more of this in True Mastery, my new column. Love to hear more about "young folk" experiences — learning is a two way superhighway
When YOU meet someone, what do you look for in an individual to truly classify him/her as 'Interesting'? In other words, how does the most interesting man in the world classify someone else as 'interesting'?
Also, do you think this charm/charisma of the individual is inborn or developed over time?
Thanks for the AMA. Huge fan!
First rule. To be interesting you have to be interested. In life.
Second rule. Interest isn't enough. You have to experience the incredible parade that's passing you by.
Not as an onlooker. As a participant. Jump in.
Did you ever suggest any ideas to be used in the Dos Equis commercials? Or was there an idea that was scrapped that you would have liked to portray?
The commercials were great, but what I'm up to now is an unfiltered take. This is me. The ideas are boundless, the poetry is all original. Not a character. Not behind a curtain. I am here and ready to hear about you, my fellow travelers. Like I said, learning goes both ways.
How many times could you have gotten laid because you are the Most Interesting Man in the World?
Do you know the code of a True gentlemen?
If you did, you would have never asked:)
So what are your thoughts on Cambozola cheese? I think it's the best cheese in the universe.
I concur. Certainly, a top contender however it's a cow's milk cheese and considering my affinity for sheep (I delivered one once) and goats (they're quite playful) i remain neutral on this important topic.
Do you have a preference between A Bloody Mary and a Caesar?
Yes. Important question. Hail Caesar!
Aren't you supposed to be on your way to Mars?
Checked it out. Food not great. Hard to get a good pour. Here I am. Glad to be back.
Whats your favorite movie?
Closely Watched Trains. A Czech picture. Touching. Poignant. A young man struggles with his arrival at manhood.
Never ending story, don't you suppose?
Is a Presidential run in your future?
Here is all I can confirm. We have received a couple calls from interested parties that are understandably concerned about the current state of affairs. Myself and my advisors decline all further comments about that position at this present time.
You sound like an absolute prick. Why is that?
Only an #$%!&^!! would mention that :)
Challenge you to a duel?
