Is there anything Donald Trump could do or say that would shake you unwavering support of him, or does your fear of Hillary, as bad as she is, trump all? Is it not morally wrong to blindly support an amoral leader? (Don't argue that there are only two options in this election, since that is patently false.)
It is morally wrong to "blindly support" anyone.
And you parenthetical statement is factually wrong -- in the real world, there are only two choices for president.
Do you see much difference in the terms "radical islamists" and "radical jihadists"? I heard Hillary Clinton use the latter the other day, and it rubbed me the wrong way because it seemed redundant, since jihadists, by definition, are already pretty radical. I've never understood why "radical islam" is such a no-no with the PC left—it seems like a term that makes sense.
The Left will not use the word Islamic or Islamist, unless it is to say something positive about it. Sort of the inverse of the Left's use of the word "Christian."
Hi Dennis
As a person of faith, What's your reaction to ISIS latest brutal attack
A first attack on a church in France?
In the past hour they just released a video of the attackers pledge.
My reaction is to remind people that John Kerry, the American Secretary of State, just announced that air conditioning and refrigerators are as big a threat to the world as ISIS. The Left always denies the greatest evils of their day and focuses on lesser or nonexistent ones. The Islamists are the successors to the Nazis and Communists in terms of evil.
Is there ever a situation in which the moral decision is to abstain from voting, rather than voting for the lesser of two evils?
I have never encountered such a situation, and I can imagine it could happen. That is not the case this year, in my opinion, however. The differences between the candidates and the parties are so great that one should vote.
What has been the biggest surprise in your career or life to date?
I never thought I would divorce.
Hello Dennis,
My husband and I are big fans of your show and are Pragertopia subscribers. We particularly look forward to the happiness hours each week.
We are both California natives but have been out of the state for six years while my husband serves in the Navy. We are nearing the end of his enlistment and are trying to decide whether or not we should return to California to be near family or settle somewhere more affordable and less leftist. Since we know you are a well-traveled person, our questions for you are these: do you feel that there are any states that better reflect your values? If you were forced to leave California, where in the US would you like to live?
It all depends on how important living near family and the weather are. If they are not determinative, you would almost have to be nuts to choose to live in the business-crushing, high tax, expensive state of California. I wish it weren't the case. The Left has really damaged California.
One of the hardest questions I was ever asked in an interview was, "How do you define success?". I really had to think about it because it seemed to me like a more difficult question to objectively answer. So, my question to you is, how do you define success?
That when I die, people will be able to say, "he left the world better than when he entered it."
what makes a good caller and what makes a bad/annoying caller to your show?
A good caller gets to his/her point immediately.
Can we expect any more collaboration from you and Adam Carolla? I really enjoyed the two of you together.
Yes. We are a wonderful team. I admire him greatly.
Dennis!
you sir, are a genius!, the third greatest teacher i have ever known in my life, the first two are my biblical teachers. i listen every chance i get. I am a member of pragertopia. your ability to analyze current world events is amazing, i also believe you to be the leading voice in the fight against evil. Something people dont believe in anymore. today, everything is anything and vice versa. In essence the youth have been taught that nothing matters. I myself am in my mid 20s and 99% of people i speak to under 40 have no conservative values and look at me like im insane for speaking about them, because they have never heard speech like that in their entire lives, free speech. so sir, my question, if you had for whatever reason never made it into the talk radio profession, what would you most likely have gone into? i wish you and your staff and family all the best.
Thank you for your beautiful comments. I would have gone into any profession that enabled me to communicate my ideas and values to as many people as possible. That is all I have wanted to do since high school. I have no desire for power but an intense desire to influence.
Do you think man is basically good or basically evil?
This is one of the most important questions people must answer. Please read my essays on this subject. In a nutshell, we have both bad and good tendencies. But the idea that people are basically good is one of the most foolish ideas a person can hold, given all the evil people have done.
Hi Dennis! Thanks for doing this AMA and also for sparking my interest in fountain pens. Your repeated mentioning of them during your show, specifically during your open lines hour on Fridays, sparked a curiosity in me. I did what any avid Redditor naturally does and sought out a subreddit for it and found a vibrant community on /r/fountainpens. I recently "joined the club" and ordered a Lamy Safari which I have inked up with Noodler's 54th Massachusetts. I also have discovered the importance of good paper when using fountain pens and have a couple of Leuchtturm1917 notebooks as well. I'm looking forward to trysting for the higher end pens as time goes on. I'm also enjoying reconnecting with cursive handwriting; a skill that I had not applied since the fourth grade.
So my questions to you are about your pens and inks. What kind of a collection do you have? I recall you mentioning a couple of weeks ago that you're a big fan of Mont Blanc. What is your every-day-carry pen? What kind of inks do you like? Which pens did you start out with?
If you have some time you should really check out /r/fountainpens. I think the people over there would love to see you post your pens and discuss with you. You may also find it prudent to grace /r/conservative or /r/askaconservative with your presence.
In any case, thanks for your time Dennis.
I have written with a fountain pen since high school. It is one of the little joys of life that contribute to my happiness. BTW, I never said I was a big Mont Blanc fan, though my current daily pen is a very expensive Mont Blanc. I pray I never lose it!
You have at least two Prager U videos on the electoral college, so why do you treat all votes equally across the country and insist there are only two options in a Presidential election? In many states, including the one you currently live in, only one has any chance of winning.
Please rephrase your question, as it's not clear to me.
How do you think the remainder of the election season will play out in regard to polls? One candidate pulling away, slowly or quickly, or the lead dancing between them right up until the day? How big a role will third parties play?
I never make predictions. I only advocate my positions and values. But it seems to me that, barring a major mistake by either candidate, it will be close.
Mr. Prager, I have so many friends who are going to either not vote in the presidential category or are going to vote Libertarian instead. What can I say to these friends to help them "feel" good about voting for Trump?
Have them read my column (in National Review, Townhall, etc.) responding to the #NeverTrump people. All those who don' vote for Trump are voting for Hillary Clinton. If they wish to fool themselves into believing otherwise, there is nothing you can say.
Dennis, do you believe that Hillary Clinton secretly sold political favors to foreign governments through the Clinton Foundation while she was Secretary of State? I do, by the way. I’d just like to hear your opinion. Thanks!
And I am huge admirer of yours, by the way. You indeed are one of the wisest, clearest voices anywhere, and I am deeply grateful for your work (and I know you encourage gratitude).
Of course she did.
Dennis, I love your show. I miss it so much, living in Florida, but at least there's the Internet.
How can we combat the left's insidiousness? I saw a great post the other day on how John Oliver's show subtlety manipulates its viewers to not question the "facts" and conditions a derision of conservatives, and there's no doubt tons of similar examples.
My show is on stations all over Florida except for the Miami area.
Derision is the primary tool of most on the Left. We can only do our best to counter with facts and logic. That's why we started PragerUniversity.com
Hey Dennis,
I've read two of your wonderful books on Jews and Judaism (9 Q's and Why the Jews). knowing that you've gone back and forth, I was wondering how you classify yourself today on the jewish spectrum?
The same way I have my whole adult life: A religious non-Orthodox Jew.
Is there anything Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton could say (rather than do), that would lead you to stop supporting Donald Trump? Shoutout to the #PragerFORCE family!
Of course. But he hasn't yet. Meanwhile the Democratic Secretary of State, John Kerry, said this week that refrigerators and air conditioners are as big a threat as ISIS. Why does that not disqualify the Democratic Party?
What would you say to someone who thinks that conservative talk radio is nothing more than a platform for pleasant sounding blowhards who who hide behind the illusion of an open debate while using tools like call screeners, mute buttons, and hang ups?
I would immediately know that the person had never actually listened to talk radio. For example, all of my colleagues at the Salem Radio Network take calls from disagreers first. And all of us went to Ivy League graduate schools (which means nothing to me, but might impress the individual who made this foolish point).
I watched your "course" about who socialism supposedly makes people selfish. Don't you think that pointing to your judgement about the level of applause for a single line in a speech from a supposed speech from Pres Obama (you never do say which speech so that others can make their own judgements about the level of applause) and using that as a proof is the definition of sophism? Just as an exercise whats the counter argument to your "proof"?
What is sophism is using ten seconds from a five-minute video and depicting that as the one "proof" I offered for my thesis. And in any event it was an illustration, not a proof.
If Trump wins and is as bad as NeverTrumpers Fear, where does that leave us in 2020? Many believe that's a path to Sanders/Warren (way worse than Hillary)
All the leading Democrats are now leftists, rather than liberals. So it is irrelevant who runs or wins.
Why do you feel compelled to cover the story of the day almost always when it's frequently drivel? (aka: whatever ABC, NBC, CBS is covering)
The question is based on a falsehood. I don't even watch the news, so I rarely know what the story of the day is. Just to give two examples, I devoted no time to either the death of Prince or Muhammad Ali, since I had nothing particularly intelligent to say.
If one is morally obligate to do good, they do you not feel morally obligated to run for POTUS yourself (In all seriousness, I think you'd blow all other contenders out of the water)?
This is the greatest moral dilemma of my life.
Are percussion ensembles included in your love for classical music?
Whose heart is a more worthy sacrifice to the Aztec sun god, GGG or Living Martyr?
There are almost no exclusively percussion ensembles in classical music.
I would sooner sacrifice myself than GGG or the Living Martyr.
Are you familiar with Renee Wade of The Feminine Woman blog? What about Roosh Valizadeh of Return of Kings? Would you ever have them on your show?
I am not, but will look into both.
Isn't it embarrassing for conservatives to consistently whine and cry about, and present a picture of a "media" aligned against them? Are you a member of the "media"? If not what will it take for conservatives to stop the whining and waving away of inconvenient facts?
We don't "cry and whine." We state a fact that study after study has shown -- the media in America (and the entire Western world) are left of center. I am a member of the talk radio medium -- and that is a conservative medium. Liberals label talk radio "conservative," and they are right to do so. That is not crying and whining.
