Nicole Camille Richie is an American fashion designer, author, actress and television personality. Richie rose to prominence for her role in the Fox reality television series, The Simple Life, alongside her childhood best friend and fellow socialite Paris Hilton, which lasted five seasons. The Simple Life was a hit for the Fox network, premiering with 13 million viewers, and brought Richie and Hilton to international recognition. Richie's personal life attracted significant media attention during The Simple Life's five-year run and she was a constant fixture of tabloid journalism before and after her appearance. Hilton and Richie are often given the distinction of being the first pair of socialites to become "famous for being famous" through reality television. Afterwards she turned her focus on other projects including charity work and environmental issues. Richie is married to musician Joel Madden and they have two children, Harlow and Sparrow. Richie and Madden founded "The Richie Madden Children's Foundation" in 2010. Richie has starred as one of the three mentors on NBC's Fashion Star. On July 17, 2014, Richie's reality show Candidly Nicole premiered on VH1.

Update: Thanks for hanging with me guys. I hope you enjoy the show. And I'll see you next time.
What do you think of the situation in Ukraine?
I just heard the news. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected.
Thank you for bringing closure to this chapter of my life.
You're welcome.
How has your relationship with Paris been since the end of the Simple Life?
It's been great.
Nope! Never found it.
What's your go-to karaoke song?
Eminem, Forgot about Dre.
what's your favorite thing about being a mom/wife?
Well my favorite thing about being a mom is getting to relive your childhood all over again, that's one of my favorite things. And my favorite thing about being a wife? I have more freedom to just be crazy, because he's already stuck with me.
Hi Nicole! I've been a big fan since the Simple Life! What's your all time favorite book and what book are you currently reading? Thanks!
One of my all-time favorite books is Tuesdays with Morrie, and I am currently not actually reading anything, and I am looking for a new book to start.
Thanks for the AMA Nicole!
Important question. You have been sentenced to death for a crime you did not commit, what would you choose as your final meal?
Oooh, a mixture of Tony Roma's, In n Out number 2, something fresh like a grilled vegetable salad, just something very fresh to keep everything moving, a little sushi, a shot of tequila. I think that'll do.
So just what exactly does "sanasa" actually mean?
It doesn't mean anything. It's not even a word. And it's funny that it keeps coming up, because it had zero significance whatsoever. I don't know.
Hey Nicole! Here's a Welcome to reddit lase I made for you: (Link). Now for the question: Do you still play the cello, violin, and piano?
First of all, thank you for this work of art, it's awesome. And I do not currently play violin and cello, I do play piano, and I'm actually right now, I started taking lessons again because I don't read music, my dad doesn't read music and he's the one who taught me, so I've been going by ear my whole life, and so I decided that I wanted to take the steps and learn how to read music and I'm not sure if I'm going to actually use it or not, but I never want to say no to learning more and I think when I was younger, I was probably afraid of it and didn't necessarily need it, and I don't know if I do, but I wanted to at least know how.
Nicole! Love you, What has been the best part of the transition of this show going from Web series to TV show?
Well, the coolest part is that we actually get to go deeper into each thing that we are exploring, and I get to bring it not necessarily one person but multiple people in whatever subject i am talking about, and it's just been such a fun experience and it's cool because people already know what the show is. So with that, you're able to really have fun with the show.
Hey Nicole! Loving Candidly Nicole. Just wondering, does Sparrow still hold Meet & Greets in the house with Joel as his security guard?
He hasn't had any meet & greets lately, but you never know when he could bust one out.
Hi, Nicole! What's your favorite song?
It's really hard to say that i have one favorite song, because I like so many different categories. I'm a big fan of the 60's and 70's, so I love Janis Joplin's Summertime, it's one of my favorite songs, but I also love Shoop by Salt n Pepa. So my music taste doesn't fall into one category. I do love Hot Hot Hot, that spicy fun song.
Hi, Nicole! First of all, I love you! You’re so hilarious, you’re my style icon, and the growth and change you’ve made in life is inspiring. My question is, do you identify as a black woman? I’ve always found it interesting that people, at least in the urban media and community, don’t typically view you as a black woman or woman of color. Also, would you ever wear your hair curly?! I bet it would look awesome based on your throwback thursday pics!
I guess that's a two part question. I would say that my experience in this world, and this is one of my favorite things about growing up in LA, the way that i was raised, there was no talk about race or religion, everybody was the same, and my dad's a musician, there were people of so many different religions, there were gay people, there were so many different kinds of people in my house, and I was adopted, and everybody was welcome and special in my house. So i have never been in the position where I Had to stand up for myself or defend myself. I look as that as a very positive thing, and it's one of my favorite things about growing up in LA, because then my kids won't have to think like that. I think that's a good thing. As far as wearing my hair curly, I've been blow-drying my hair straight for so long that i don't even know what i would do, so I like it straight.
Nicole, I am so happy you're doing this! I'm kind of light headed and trying to thinking of good questions. The only thing I can think of right now is what do you look for in a best friend, and will you be my best friend?
Well, I just read a quote recently and it said "A good friend will help you move, and a best friend will help you move bodies." And it's so accurate - you want a friend whom you can call no matter what, who will have your back! I'm really lucky, I've had friends since I was 2 years old, they know me through and through, we support each other and don't get jealous of each other, and if we want to talk shit, we talk shit in front of each other's faces, because that is more fun.
And someone you don't have to entertain, they can come over and you can just be a zombie together and they don't require much.
Has your father given you any advice that you consider valuable?
Well, both my parents have given me great advice. They are from Alabama, they are not from LA, and they are both very hard workers, and they also have people around them who have been around them a very long time, and i think that's a credit to how they treat people and how gracious & kind they are. They have really instilled in me to always, no matter what, to create around you an environment that is pleasant to be in and fun for everyone to be in, because at the end of the day, it's what you create, and it's important for you to create that space.
What are your favorite pizza toppings?
I really keep it simple and stick with pepperoni, extra well done.
Hey buddy, how's it going today?
I'm having a very mellow day. I've been relaxing, and spending time with my kids, and my chickens, and I've just been chilling all day, it's been very nice.
What is your favourite Good Charlotte song?
Harlow's song.
What is the most memorable gift you have ever received?
Well, there's a few. A gift from my mom, she gave me a piece of her jewelry, I was about 12 and I still have it, it's a sapphire necklace. And my car was a big one. And lately I've been getting more thoughtful gifts from my family, any time my children draw or make me anything, my heart just melts completely, and I'm big on handwritten letters and I luckily get those a lot from my family.
Hey Nicole, you're famous, but who is the most famous person you have ever met?
I don't know, because I don't know how to rate people by fame! But I can tell you some of the nicest people that I have ever met, and I would say one of them is Lionel, he is very nice, he is somebody I respect as an entertainer who is a genuine nice person and my dad is definitely one of those people. And Cher is a nice person too.
[deleted]
Don't tweeze your eyebrows too soon.
Nicole! I love your hair. Who's your favorite Spice Girl?
Ginger Spice.
Do you listen to bands that Joel & Benji have toured with/are pals with? Like The Maine, Simple Plan, New Found Glory etc.?
Joel's friends with a lot of those guys. I'm really bad with the band names, to say exactly who they are, but Joel is basically friends with pretty much all of them. And i do listen to their music.
Hi. Out of every song your dad has ever recorded, which is your favorite and why?
Ballerina Girl!
Nicole, I'm so happy you are doing an AMA!
Thanks for taking the time to do this. I am a huge fan and I may cry if you answer any of my questions! I have already told everyone I know to watch the show every Thursday night.
1) Well, it's hard to sum it up in one sentence because it is so many different things. If i had to say in one sentence, I would cheat a bit and say "It is a fun peek into the modern challenges of life / a comedy / a show where we're getting people's different perspectives / a destination for people who just want to laugh."
2) that's a hard one. probably I'm A Slave 4 U, just because I was a little bit older at the time, I was probably 18 and I remember the video being so big, her MTV awards performance being so big, and I Just remember everything at that time just seeming to make a big impact on my life!
3) I would love to. I am doing everything I can to live a balanced life. I don't ever take on anything unless i can put 100% into it. I love music, I love singing, I love playing piano, right now House of Harlow is where my heart is and where my focus is, and I owe it to my customer to give them my 100% attention.
Aw!
Hi Nicole, thank you for this AMA! How did you and Joel first meet?
Joel and I met through a friend about 10 years ago. And that's how we met!
Thanks for doing this AMA!! :)
1. Since leaving the reality tv life behind, what are you doing now?
2. What's your favorite food?
1) I am a designer, and creative director of a brand called House of Harlow.
And I have a new TV show, Candidly Nicole.
2) Pizza & sushi.
Thanks for the response. Went with your dad. I dig it. He seems like a good dude. I guess you sort of grew up around famous people, so you're used to it, but was there anyone you've met where you were like, damn, I can't believe I'm actually meeting this person?
Meeting Michelle Obama was very big for me, she's a huge inspiration for me. I met her last year. And she was relatable, incredibly warm, very nice.
What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Cookies & cream.
hi! do you own a snuggie? p.s. sanasa sanasaaa!
I don't own a snuggie.
NICOLE FUCKING RICHIE!
1. Who is your tattoo artist
2. what is your opinion on tattoos on women making them less valued in the work business
3. How can I get into the jewelry busness
1) My tattoo artist's name is Mark Mahoney.
2) I mean, it really depends on the job, it's very easy for me to say that i think everybody should just be treated how they're supposed to be treated and tattoos shouldn't come into play. But what if someone has an offensive throat tattoo that might affect someone's business? I am sure there are a lot of opportunities out there for everybody.
3) Just keep practicing your craft, and then you start learning the actual business of producing also, to raise enough money to make good quality samples, and to always keep your ear on the ground and be open to learning and growing.
Who's your least favorite person in Hollywood?
I don't have a least favorite.
You've said you believe 90210 changed the world, who's your favorite 90210 character?
Luke Perry, Dylan, was my favorite. He was my first crush. I also loved Emily Valentine, she was a big one for me.
I loved your cameo on Six Feet Under. In real life who are your favorite artists?
My favorite artists are Damien Hirst, Retna, Mr. Brainwash, Wes Lang.
Hi Nicole I'm so excited for your show. My questions are how do you stay in shape, exercise and diet or just eating well? And what is going to be your next hair color?
Well, I do Tracy Andersen and I do eat well. I definitely take care of myself. That's my fitness program. And I just changed my hair color, so right now i am just enjoying the blue.
Nicole! When did you feel the most confident - with long hair or short hair? (Sorry for the simple minded question but I recently cut off my mane and feel like a new women, I was wondering if you felt the same)
I like having both, and the good thing about hair is that it is hair, so if you want it short you can cut it, if you want it long you can get extensions or grow it out. I try to change up my hair a lot, it definitely feels fun and is always a way to make me feel fresh, is playing with my hair.
What pets do you currently have? I still remember Honey Child and Foxy Cleopatra.
Honey Child and Foxy are with my parents. At my house, I have a dog, two turtles, fish and five chickens.
Hey Nicole ! Are you proud of the person you've become and how much you've achieved in these past years?
I am very proud. And there is nothing wrong with being proud of yourself, and you absolutely should be proud of yourself.
How often has someone tried picking you up by singing the song "Hello" to you?
Ooh that's actually never happened, but I'd be open to it!
What is your new show about?
The new show is based off of my twitter feed, and it is me exploring different parts of life that I don't really know much about, for example online dating. I cover different topics. You see my perspective and my experience, and at the end you get to hear other people's experiences as well.
Any advice for someone who is an aspiring piano musician?
Keep doing your thing!
If that's never happened then...
Hello!
Is it me you're looking for?
I can see it in your eyes,
I can see it in your smile,
you're all I've ever wanted!
Call me.
What was your favorite moment seen on the simple life?
How long have you been doing the tracy Anderson method and which move is the hardest for you? I just started metamorphosis and the dance cardio is killer!!
Good question. My favorite moment - season 3 was fun, because we were kind of near New York, so every few days we were able to step out for a second and go and see our friends who lived in the city, so that was a fun part of my life because I felt like the Simple Life was starting to come into my actual reality, and that was something that was really exciting.
Well, I don't know how to describe the moves, but Tracy always knows how to challenge you and your body, which is a great thing, and I've been doing Tracy for about 4 years.
when are you gonna give your clothes away?
Can you clarify the question?
first of all sanasaaaAAAA!
Who in hollywood would you like to have appear on Candidly Nicole?
Kim Kardashian? Rob Ford? Lorde? (lol)
Thanks Nicole
Well, the cool thing about Candidly Nicole is that i turn to people who work in other fields, so that's part of the process of me growing and exploring in a real way. So it's me stepping into fields that i am not as familiar with.
Would you be interested in an OWN network docuseries like Lindsay?
I think my life is a little too boring to have a docuseries.
Did you enjoy your tenure on Fashion Star?
Yes, I was a mentor and the process was amazing, I loved shooting Fashion Star.
[deleted]
I'm sure that it has happened at some point in my life. My parents taught me to be kind to people no matter what, and that's definitely the best way to make people like that feel stupid. You just gotta keep your side of the street clean.
Nicole, you're one of my favorite people to follow on twitter. Who is your favorite person to follow on there? Ps I can't wait for your show tonight, you rock.
I love going on Twitter to laugh, so Kelly Oxford is somebody I love following on Twitter, there's a woman called Jenny Johnson who's really funny, Patton Oswalt, Sara Silverman, and Rivka Rossi @sofifii.
Favorite bands at the moment?
I'm really bad with current music! The Madden Brothers.
Will HoH ever get a beauty/fragrance line? I sense a lot of patchouli/leather/tobacco mixtures in the future!
It is coming in the future.
whats your favorite lipstick color?!
I'm not good with makeup, but I do love Jungle Red by Nars and Heat wave by Nars, but i haven't worn Heat Wave since i have blue hair lately. But it's a nice fiery orange.
Hey Nicole. If you could be a man and choose your own name what would it be? I'd be Maximillion Mauriceverdison.
Aleister. It's a very sexual yet regal name.
[deleted]
Well, my dream guest would be Neil DeGrasse Tyson. I want to learn about science. He's rock n' roll, and dope.
Have you ever seen your dad without facial hair? If so was it scary?
I've actually NEVER seen my dad without a mustache, for sure.
I am petite and even though I am almost 30, I still sometimes get self-conscious about it (esp when it comes to styling - though people like you and the Olsens have been a fashion inspiration - fit is key!). When you were younger, were you self-conscious about your petite height? Are you still?
I feel like I was one of the tallest in my class until 5th grade, and then it all just came to a screeching halt. Your body is your body and you gotta be comfortable with it. The plus size is we can wear short shorts because no one takes it offensively when it comes from somebody who is small. You can weasel your way out of a party because nobody can see you. And if you focus on the positives like that, everything else just falls to the wayside.
Hey Nicole! Is it hard to balance life as as a celebrity and life as a mother? Do you feel you spend enough time with your children?
It's hard, when I am talking to other moms, other working moms that aren't necessarily in the entertainment industry, just other modern moms, and we are all trying to find the perfect balance, and I think that's a very common struggle that mothers go through. When we're at work, we want to be home, when we're at home, we feel the need to be at work, and that's just part of being a parent.
What is in your make up bag?
I don't wear makeup unless I'm working, so I don't have a makeup bag. I need my face to breath, I wear moisturizer on my face but otherwise I feel trapped with makeup on.
