Hey fans, this is Brian Woods, Commissioner or the new FXFL Professional Football League. We just kicked off our season last Wednesday, and we have two exciting games on the docket tomorrow in Brooklyn and Omaha. You can catch the action on ESPN3, SNY, NESN, Comcast, Altitude and several other local stations. www,fxfl.com
A little bit about my background: I enjoyed a collegiate football career at the University of Mississippi; a coaching stint with the University of Iowa; a football administration gig with the New York Jets; I have represented pro players at a sports-based law firm; and now I am the Commissioner of the FXFL. I am fired up about our season and to start this show, so let's get to AskMeAnything

Welcome Commissioner Woods. The concept behind the FXFL is an interesting one and I hope that it can achieve its goals. I have a few questions that I would like to ask while we have you available.
1) It has been well mentioned that the FXFL is seeking to become a minor league to the NFL. Has your organization had any communication with the NFL officially or is it assumed that the FXFL will have to impress the NFL before any talks can happen?
2) When looking into future locations for hosting a team what are you looking for in order to determine whether a franchise would be successful in the FXFL?
3) Traveling teams have a history of being dead men walking in professional football. With the Florida Blacktips becoming an all road team, what do you feel must be done to prevent the team from suffering the usual fate and folding after this first season?
We are looking for cities that have shown strong interest or a history of supporting minor league sports. Specifically we are looking for appropriate venues and ideal ownership groups. The model we have in Brooklyn with the NY Mets/Brooklyn Cyclones is an example of the partnerships the FXFL will forge as we build our membership.
What's the ultimate plan for the Florida/traveling team?
The Blacktips are an all-star format allowing the FXFL to cycle in more players in our inaugural season. That being said, we are committed to providing the fans with an outstanding on-field product and players such as former 3rd round draft pick Myron Lewis are on the Blacktips roster.
Do you have plans to add teams?
Yes, we plan to augment our membership by 2-3 teams in 2015. Wanted to ask the redditors tonight - what cities would you like the FXFL to be in - also love to hear thoughts, ideas and any fan support is always needed - we have a big nationally televised game tomorrow night in Brooklyn. At Coney Island MCU Park - which is breathtaking overlooking the rollercoasters, beach and water. A true one of a kind venue which will look awesome for the fans!
As someone who would like to break in the industry on the front office side of things what tips would you give in trying to do that? To be able to come in and learn the way. It feels difficult sometimes to understand the best way to go about finding a job in the sporting industry.
Start off with getting your feet wet with an internship. Anywhere you can find one with a team, agency, league or other entity in sports. Make yourself indispensable and be the first one in and the last one to leave. Keep a positive outlook and a dream and vision of success and it will come to you. Keep following your passion and learn and meet as many people as you can in the industry along the way. Good luck to you!
Will the FXFL be hiring for Office personnel or interns? What is the best way to contact the FXFL in regards to employment opportunities?
Make sure to send a note to the FXFL on our web page
What kind of people do you look for as owners? What are the minimum requirements?
people who have the financial resources to adequately market our brand in an efficient manner. Individuals with a history of sports ownership are the ideal candidate but not necessary a requirement.
You raise a great point, however the FXFL has placed a priority on player safety and utilizing rule revisions and the latest technology to make the game safer.
My vote for an expansion team would be for Utica NY (Buffalo Bills farm team perhaps??) My question is this: Do you have any insight on an official partnership with the NFL? I've heard that you are in communication, but any word what the partnership would consist of, and on when and how to get official partnerships? Also, GO MAMMOTHS!!!!
Thank you Mr. Van_West for your question. Ultimately, our long term goal is to establish an official partnership with the National Football League and we are working towards that goal on a daily basis. However, at this time I am not able to comment on the communication.
I would love to see you guys try to partner with more MLB franchises like you did with Brooklyn and the Mets.
Yes. The partnership with the NY Mets and Brooklyn Cyclones exemplify the business model of the FXFL as we move forward in future years. I hope you guys can come out tomorrow night as you will have a ton of fun and see some great football at MCU Park.
The UFL focused seemed more on marketing and becoming a self sustaining league based on attendance numbers, how long do you see the FXFL lasting if some sort of deal with the NFL is not struck, and if no deal is struck how do you plan on increasing attendance?
First and foremost, the FXFL is a developmental league and the first of its kind since NFL Europe. With a developmental model cost containment is a key priority and one that the FXFL is committed to adhere to. With this in mind a formal relationship with the National Football League while beneficial to the FXFL is not crucial to our long term success. Our attendance numbers are in line with successful minor league baseball and NBA D-League entitles.
If you do strike a deal with the NFL, what would you rename the league? :)
That would be up to the NFL.
